Spring into Hydration: Preparing for Warmer Days Ahead

I've been focusing on my hydration journey lately, especially as spring days are getting longer and temperatures are starting to climb. As we prepare for those scorching summer months, our bodies will soon be losing moisture faster than we realize. Did you know that about 20% of our daily water intake actually comes from food? Certain fruits and vegetables can enhance our hydration game while delivering a serious nutrition punch. Once you discover these hydration hacks, you'll never look at your spring and summer meals the same way again.
If you love drinking plain water, that’s amazing - kudos to you! However, many of us (myself included) struggle with drinking plain water consistently throughout the day. This is why I've turned my hydration routine into an opportunity to pack in extra nutrients through herbal infusions (aka drinking herbs as a tea). My favorites are oat straw and nettle infusions - both are remarkably rich in minerals that your body needs, especially when the weather heats up. What makes these minerals (natural electrolytes) so important is how they enhance your body's ability to absorb and utilize water effectively. Even adding just a pinch of high-quality salt to your water can improve hydration at the cellular level, as these minerals help transport fluid where it's needed most in your body. For those who prefer a hint of sweetness, licorice root provides a pleasant natural alternative without added sugar.
Herbal infusions aren't for everyone, of course. There are numerous ways to make hydration more appealing. Adding slices of fresh fruit (citrus, berries, cucumber), herbs (mint, basil, rosemary), or combinations of both can transform ordinary water into something you'll actually look forward to drinking. As spring transitions to summer, incorporate hydration superstars into your meals as well. Watermelon and strawberries (both 92% water) shine during warm weather, while cucumbers (96% water) are perfect for staying cool. When you combine these water-rich foods with mindfully enhanced beverages, you create a hydration strategy that works with your body instead of just consuming plain water (which is okay too). The beauty of establishing these hydration habits now in spring is that they'll be second nature when those truly hot days arrive.
